On the mountainsides of Pisgah National Forest are some of the loveliest long range mountain views in Western North Carolina. Today we will feature a stunning kitchen in one of our Platt Architecture designed builds.

In this home resides a wonderful couple who moved to WNC from the Aloha State. Along with some notable climate differences the mountains of Pisgah Forest presented a completely new landscape and an opportunity to meld together the island feel of Hawaii and the mountain textures of North Carolina. Using rich materials such as mahogany wood floors and cherry cabinets the design for their kitchen encapsulates the light and airy with the strong and rugged.

The most eye-catching feature is a live edge raised countertop on the island. This Ambrosia Maple slab displays all of the natural wood characteristics and is a beautiful and highly functional addition to the space. The overhang it creates serves as a perfect place to pull up a stool.

Toning down the richness of the wood materials is the backsplash – a stunning ode to the blue, green, and gold tones found on Hawaii’s shoreline. Gaya Dream Granite is on full display boasting waves of soft color and texture in this custom built home. The slab was hand-selected by the homeowners from Mountain Marble and Granite in Asheville.

A breakfast nook banquette is the perfect place to relax and unwind while the sun rises and sets over the mountains. Further enhancing this functional nook are storage drawers and toe kick outlets. The chandelier by Hubbardton Forge mirrors the pendant design over the kitchen island and adds a touch of Arts and Crafts to the modern architecture that surrounds it. Large windows free of obstruction allows the view of the surrounding forest to infiltrate the room and achieve a mountain oasis, after which it is named.
